GB Cosmetics Notification Portal (OPSS)

All cosmetic products sold or given away in the UK must be notified in the UK.

To continue to sell or give away cosmetic products that were notified to the European Union (EU) before 1 January 2021, you must submit your product notifications in the UK within 90 days of the UK leaving the EU – that is by 31 March 2021.

Currently products in Northern Ireland are still represented via the EU’s CPNP. Products for sale in the England, Scotland and Wales are represented on the GB OPSS portal.

Challenge Testing

Also referred to as Microbial Challenge Test or Preservation efficacy test (PET)

Tan London has a on-site laboratory and dedicated microbiologist to ensure compliance with acceptable testing standards.  We comply with ISO 11930:2012 testing procedures: Cosmetics, Microbiology & Evaluation of the antimicrobial protection of a cosmetic product.  This ISO standard is a reference method that is used to evaluate the preservation of a cosmetic formulation.  It applies to cosmetic products in the market place.

Your product is challenged, incubated, examined at 7, 14 and 28 days.

SPF  Testing

Cosmetics Europe requires samples to be tested to the Standard EN ISO 24443:2012 Cosmetics – Sun protection test methods – In vitro determination of sunscreen UVA photoprotection.

This standard has been published by CEN (June 2012) and replaces the earlier reference method (Colipa Guidelines – Method for in vitro Determination of UVA protection, 2011). The EN ISO test method is now considered as the reference method within the EU. Cosmetics Europe therefore recommends cosmetic manufacturers to use this standard to determine the UVA Protection Factor and the Critical Wavelength. For UVA protection testing, preference is given to the standardised in vitro test method which avoids the need for in vivo testing while delivering equivalent results.
